At least half of your servings of grains for the day should be whole grains.  However, choosing 100% whole grain products isn't always the easiest thing to do because of all the tricky marketing and product packaging.  In order to ensure you are buying a product that is 100% whole grain follow these steps:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Do not go by the color of the food - there are many wheat products that are not whole grain&lt;br /&gt;Read the ingredient list - if the first one or two ingredients is whole wheat, whole grain, etc - you have made a good choice&lt;br /&gt;If you see the yellow stamp like postage sticker on a food (the stam is sponsored by the whole grains counsil) - good choice&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Whole grains can now be found in cereals, breads, hot dog buns, hamburger buns, crackers, chips, and pasta. Mix them with some sugar free strawberry glaze.  Scoop the mixture into the ice cream cone and top it with some whip cream.  Its as simple as that.  The only sugar found in this dessert is the natural sugar found in the strawberries.  The cake cones have no sugar and they have only 20 calories. By using the yogurt, your smoothie will be a little thicker. The frozen fruit keep the smoothie cold, without having to use ice (ice sometimes makes the smoothies too watery). Place banana on one end of the tortilla, on the peanut butter side.  If adding raisins, place raisins on the peanut butter next to the banana.  Roll up the tortilla to complete your snack.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is a well balanced snack because it contains foods from 3 different food groups:  The tortilla is a grain (and even better, a whole grain), the peanut butter is a protein, and the banana is a fruit. However, some people have trouble finding time to get in their activity. We recommend families keeping an activity bag in their car at all times, so that anytime your family is in the car waiting around or &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1"&gt;in between&lt;/span&gt; stops, your family can hop out and be active. These bags come in handy when you are waiting for one child to finish piano lessons, soccer practice, tutoring, etc. These bags will enable you to be active during times you would otherwise be inactive. Below are items I keep in my activity bag:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#33cc00;"&gt;A jump Rope &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#33cc00;"&gt;A &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2"&gt;Frisbee&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#33cc00;"&gt;A small ball &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#33cc00;"&gt;Tennis Shoes&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#33cc00;"&gt;A kickball &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#33cc00;"&gt;A tennis &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3"&gt;racket&lt;/span&gt; and balls&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let your kids decide what they want to put in the activity bag. Try to include items that encourage you and the kids to be active together. With sports, camps, family events, and vacations, all the running around can lead to unhealthy eating habits. Today, on WHAS 11 Noon News, we talked about how your family can avoid unhealthy eating on the run this summer. A &lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;Fit-Kids Summer Survival Bag&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;, if kept stocked, can replace the need for fast food eating in the summer. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:lucida grande;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;u&gt;&lt;span style="color:#33cc00;"&gt;A GUIDE TO PACKING YOUR FIT-KIDS SUMMER SURVIVAL BAG&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:lucida grande;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:lucida grande;"&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;1) Get a Ziploc freezer bag or a small cooler that can be kept in your car (if you get a cooler, you can keep more items in the car during the hot summer days)&lt;br /&gt;2) As a family, decide which healthy snacks should be packed in your bag&lt;br /&gt;3) Snacks should be portioned into single size portions&lt;br /&gt;4) Try to include foods from various food groups into your survival bag&lt;br /&gt;5) Survival bags must be restocked every one or two days to ensure you always have those healthy snacks on hand - it's when your bag is empty that you resort to the unhealthy options at fast food restaurants&lt;br /&gt;6) Always keep bottled water in your car - if possible keep them in a small cooler in the back of the car&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;u&gt;&lt;span style="color:#33cc00;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;u&gt;&lt;span style="color:#33cc00;"&gt;WHAT CAN YOU PUT IN YOUR FIT-KIDS SURVIVAL BAG?&lt;/span&gt; &lt;/u&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;Trail mix (mix whole grain cereal, dried fruit, and your favorite type of nuts)&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;Baby carrots&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;Unsweetened applesauce (in individual containers)&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;Sugar-free Jell-o pudding - these do not have to be refrigerated&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;Low-fat popped popcorn in individual serving size bags&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;Peanut butter and jelly sandwich on 100% whole wheat bread&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;Fruit (apples, bananas, oranges)&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;Small cans of 100% vegetable juice (these are best if kept chilled)&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;Granola bars (make sure you read the lables to see the nutritional information)&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;A high fiber, low sugar dry cereal portioned into individual servings&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;To-Go Crystal Light packets for the water bottles (sugar-free!)&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p align="left"&gt;Please feel free to post additional healthy snacks that are kid-friendly in the comments section.
