Banana Bread on the Go
Breakfast is a very important meal, especially for your kids. We know how crazy mornings can be trying to get the kids ready for school, but this recipe is extremely quick and can be taken in the car. The Ingredients:
1 banana
1 piece 100% whole wheat toast
1 tbs of peanutbutter
Toast the Bread. Spread the peanut butter on the toast. Slice the banana and add the slices on top of the bread. Drink with a glass of milk. This recipe is a well balanced meal because it is a combination of the protein, bread, and fruit food groups.

Wholly Whole Grains!!
Whole grain foods provide your body with many nutrients. At least half of your servings of grains for the day should be whole grains. However, choosing 100% whole grain products isn't always the easiest thing to do because of all the tricky marketing and product packaging. In order to ensure you are buying a product that is 100% whole grain follow these steps:
Do not go by the color of the food - there are many wheat products that are not whole grain
Read the ingredient list - if the first one or two ingredients is whole wheat, whole grain, etc - you have made a good choice
If you see the yellow stamp like postage sticker on a food (the stam is sponsored by the whole grains counsil) - good choice
Whole grains can now be found in cereals, breads, hot dog buns, hamburger buns, crackers, chips, and pasta. Remember that half of your grains should be whole grains- the benefits far outweight the time it takes to check the labels. For more information visit www.wholegrainscouncil.org

Summer Smoothies
This is a great way to get in some dairy and fruit. It is a quick snack that can fill you up fast. Smoothies can be made with a variety of ingredients, however today on the noon news, we used:
1 cup on Non-fat vanilla yogurt
1/2 cup of mandarin oranges (with their juice)
1 medium banana
1 handful of strawberries
Blend all ingredients together in a blender. By using the yogurt, your smoothie will be a little thicker. The frozen fruit keep the smoothie cold, without having to use ice (ice sometimes makes the smoothies too watery). Let the kids help put in the ingredients. They will love this snack.
